The Fresh Market has an opening for a Development Project Manager to be based in the Northeast area. The PM has a wide variety of responsibilities associated with the development and construction of both new stores and open store remodel projects. The Development PMs report to the Director of Development. The Development PM is teamed with one or more Real Estate managers and Construction Managers. The team works together during site/building evaluation. The Development PM works closely with potential landlords and developers to ensure a thorough understanding of The Fresh Market's needs and details of our standard work letter. As deals progress, the Development PM is responsible for preparing a complete project schedule showing how the potential project would progress from conception through grand opening. While based in the Northeast, the Development PM will travel to prospective site locations and active project sites on a regular basis (assume 1-2 days every other week).


  • Supports Real Estate in pursuit of new sites
  • Visits sites and reviews existing buildings, as required
  • Works with Real Estate and landlords and developers re: work letter details
  • Works with Real Estate and Construction Manager re: timeline development
  • Works with Construction Manager in development of CAPEX budgets
  • Ensures that timeline and budget are loaded into electronic system and kept current
  • Works with in-house estimator for as-is and ground-up budget preparation
  • Works with Architectural Manager and Designer re: concept fixture plan preparation
  • Works with Architectural Manager and Designer re: development of formal fixture plan, presentation to Design team, and obtaining necessary in-house approvals
  • Works with Construction Coordinator to request project CAPEX approvals
  • Work with Construction Manager to select from approved GC list for bidding
  • Works with Construction Manager re: review of bids and making contractor recommendation
  • Works with Construction Coordinator re: contract preparation
  • Works with Designer, Architectural Manager, and Construction Manager to ensures that Purchasing has complete understanding of project requirements
  • Works with local authorities re: zoning, permitting, approvals, process, etc.
  • Responsible for management of project timeline
  • Management of project expenditures vs. approved CAPEX
  • Works with Construction Manager to prepare overall timeline and phasing plan for remodel projects
  • Presents, along with Construction Manager, remodel timeline and phasing plan to Operations and Merchandising via internal project kick-off sessions
  • Coordinates communications between TFM and landlord during project execution


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Construction, Construction Management, Architectural Construction Administration, or other related discipline is required
  • Knowledge of real estate development, Architectural, and construction-related project management is essential
  • Formal certification in project management would be considered a plus
  • Leadership and communications skills are essential
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, multi-tasking skills, time management skills, and leadership skills are required
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office, Adobe, MS Project, and AutoCAD are required
