    The Fresh Market currently has an opening for a Grocery Category Manager at our Corporate Offices in Greensboro, North Carolina.  As the Grocer Category Manager, you will be expected to set merchandising programs and manage the item selection process, while ensuring proper cost and retail relationships in order to maximize sales and optimize margins.



    The successful candidate should have worked within an environment that has employed Category Management Principles to include:


    • The Knowledge/use of industry data: Neilsen, IRI and SPINS
    • Clustering of stores and integration of multiple planograms based upon size and demographics
    • Price zone implementation; price models for margin and target competitive pricing
    • Financial acumen of set analysis, sales & GP per linear foot, inventory turn analysis
    • Exposure to Spaceman, JDA or other applications
    • Explicit use of internal data for category performance to include sales, margin, turns, days’ supply, etc.
    • History of growth in Category Sales and Margin
    • Demonstrates examples of accomplishments
    • Strong involvement in Private Label
    • Understands the role PL plays within the category
    • Involved with sourcing and product specification
    • Experience dealing with third party distribution
    • Sales Planning
    • Vendor deals/promotions
    • Advertising/Marketing funds
    • Preparing promotional plans in advance
    • Planning distributions/allocations
    • Dealing with “buy-to” plans
    • Creating end cap/display plans
    • Thorough understanding of Store Operations: store receiving, reset chronology, back stock handling/tools, DSD issues/procedures, perpetual inventory/automatic replenishment principles


    Position Requirements:

    • This position requires a minimum of 3 years of Category Mangager experience
    • College Degree Required
    • Experience in a Specialty Food environment preferred
    • Direct product purchasing experience
    • Comfortable with Excel and Databases

    • Love of food-understands the balance of unique to conventional offerings in addition to the relationship to consumer interest versus financial returns
    • Attuned to trends and brings “first to market” attitude for specialty items
    • Hands on attitude with an ability to adapt to small staff support
    • Comfortable operating as a “service role” for the stores
