The Fresh Market, a specialty food retailer with 176 locations located across 24 states, has an opening for a Senior Tax Manager at the Corporate Office in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Responsible for tax accounting process for interim and year-end income tax provisions under ASC 740.
Prepare extensive quarterly memoranda documenting judgments and basis for tax accounting conclusions related to all discreet and temporary items.
Monitor the current and deferred tax reporting pursuant to ASC 740 to ensure full identification of all book/tax permanent and temporary differences.
Lead analysis of tax exposures, including the calculation of appropriate tax reserves for uncertain tax positions pursuant to Company policy and FIN 48. Prepare documentation supporting tax positions and relevant disclosures.
Lead efforts in the preparation and documentation of income tax footnotes and disclosures for quarterly and annual reports.
Coordinate with external service providers and financial statement auditors on tax accounting matters, including the quarterly and annual reporting.
Responsible for preparation and filing of all federal and state income tax returns including estimated tax payments and extension payments for federal consolidated group and approximately 30 state and local filings.
Manage all income and franchise tax audits including notice responses.
Develop and maintain relationships throughout the finance organization to increase understanding of the business and keep current with transactions and/or other changes/activities that may affect the tax results.
Prepare modeling related to corporate initiatives, legislative proposals, and acquisitions/divestitures as needed.
Developing tax strategy and tax structure to reduce risks and uncertain tax positions while minimizing taxes payable and optimizing profitability, including tax efficient utilization of various federal and state carryforwards.
Assist with sales and use tax research and audit support as needed.
Willingness to take on special projects on an ad hoc basis from the Chief Accounting Officer as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Master’s Degree preferred.
8-10 years of related experience in either corporate or public accounting.
Strong working knowledge of US GAAP with an emphasis on ASC 740 and FIN48 and all aspects of tax provision processes and financial statement reporting
Experience working in RIA Checkpoint and OneSource Income Tax software preferred
