  • Overview

    The Director of Communications and Community is responsible for maintaining a favorable public image for The Fresh Market by executing effective communication & media relations programs, overseeing corporate responsibility & philanthropic activities as well as community relations & local marketing efforts.  This person will work closely with senior management to strategize, execute and manage programs that meet company objectives to drive traffic and sales and further position The Fresh Market as an innovative, specialty grocer.  This position will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and supervise three direct reports. This role is based at our headquarters in Greensboro, NC.


    • Oversee and manage public relations planning and strategy as well as external vendor partner.
    • Develop, execute and manage ongoing social influencer program and partner agency.
    • Create and direct internal communications efforts.
    • Oversee corporate responsibility strategy, philanthropy efforts and management of charitable partnerships.
    • Community relations strategy, planning and store assistance as needed.
    • Develop, execute and manage local marketing approach, planning and store assistance as needed.
    • Grand opening and remodel strategy, planning, events and on-site support.
    • Develop and manage competitive impact plans, tactics and measurement.
    • Work closely and cross-functionally within marketing and the organization to ensure success of the department and the company.


    • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field of study
    • 10+ years' experience in Marketing, Public Relations or Communications
    • Previous supervisory experience preferred
    • Self-motivated, creative and passionate about food and delivering The Fresh Market experience
    • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format and build and maintain relationships
    • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
    • Ability to work consistently and with a strong attention to detail
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
    • Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills to work with executives, employees, retail operators, and external groups to present a positive image of the organization
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products is required
    • Knowledge of Cision Communications Cloud is a plus
    • Some travel is required to assist stores on an as-needed basis
