  • Overview

    The Fresh Market is looking for a talented and experienced senior Merchandising professional who has diverse experience in the procurement, merchandising and marketing of Bakery.  This position will be located at The Fresh Market Corporate Office in Greensboro, North Carolina.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities:

    • Day to day operations of the Bakery Departments to include sales, product selection, gross margin and inventory levels
    • In-store communication, including content for email and web page, signage, circular and catalog design, pertaining to Bakery
    • Private label package design and sourcing
    • Leading, inspiring and growing a team of 5 + people directly but influencing 180 + stores
    • Managing financial targets and measuring the financial returns of investments and tests
    • Setting the vision and strategy for the Bakery departments across the chain. This includes research for an implementation of a Bakery reinvention in the short term.
    • Leading the training for new store management team members

     

    Experience and skills required:

    • Undergraduate degree in Marketing, MBA preferred
    • Minimum 7 years’ experience participating in and leading Bakery areas
    • In depth knowledge of Category Management
    • Ability to utilize databases to analyze results; Use of industry data such as SPINS
    • Takes pride in knowing industry trends and proactively responding as appropriate
    • Track record of building sales, growing margin, managing inventory/turns and creating unique consumer offerings
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • “Hands On” Mentality- does what it takes to get the job done
    • Strong financial analysis skills with a focus on understanding and measuring the financial implications of marketing and merchandising activities
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

    • Experience in multi price zones
    • Working with Distributor model is a plus
    • Utilization of Pricing Models to drive sales
      • Target key items for price impression

    • Clustering of stores
      • Integrate multiple plan-o-grams based upon size and demographics
      • Price zone implementation
      • Price models for margin and target competitive pricing
    • Financial acumen of set analysis
      • Sales & GP per linear foot
      • Inventory turn analysis
    • Utilization of Spaceman, JDA or other applications
      • Explicit use of internal data for category performance
      • Sales, margin, turns, days’ supply, etc.
    • History of growth in Category Sales and Margin
      • Specific examples of accomplishments
    • Strong involvement in Private Label
      • Understands the role PL plays within the category
      • Involved with sourcing and product specification
