  • Overview

    The Staff Accountant II will be part of the Corporate Accounting team and be primarily responsible for the areas of real estate, insurance and general accounting. An individual in this position will be responsible for financial analysis and reporting, budget preparation, variance analysis and internal communication of results, in the areas of his/her responsibility.


    The Staff Accountant II will work closely with other departments within the company and external contractors.  He/she will be responsible for providing financial schedules and communication of results to the internal and external audit teams on a periodic basis.  


    The Staff Accountant II must demonstrate a high level of integrity, high respect for accuracy, in-depth understanding of accounting principles, and have the ability and desire to independently monitor and review results for appropriateness.


    The individual in this position must be organized, motivated and maintain a sense of urgency with tasks which are required to be completed timely and accurately with respect to month/quarter-end and year-end responsibilities.


    • Prepare account reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts
    • Prepare and maintain amortization schedules
    • Prepare and process monthly rent payments and occupancy cost reconciliations
    • Prepare and analyze key supporting schedules for assigned accounts
    • Identify and record appropriate accruals for month-end/quarter-end
    • Interact with a high degree of professionalism with other team members, internal  and external audit teams, and respond timely and accurately to requests
    • Handle confidential information with care
    • Cross train with other team members as back up support

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
    • 2-4 years of general accounting experience
    • Demonstrated experience with account  analysis and reconciliations, month-end closing procedures, and ad-hoc reporting is required
    • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, is required
    • Prior audit experience is preferred
    • Prior experience using Microsoft Great Plains or similar general ledger applications is preferred
    • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities are essential for this role, as well as analytical and time management skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain professional working relationships within and outside The Fresh Market
    • Detail oriented, highly motivated, and able to handle high volume activity while maintaining a sense of urgency in completing tasks and meeting deadlines
